Did Mitt Romney’s Religion Doom His Candidacy?

Did Romney lose the Republican primary because he is LDS?

I argued in an earlier post;

Romney was rejected for being a pompous, lying, flip-flopper. He changed lanes more than a NASCAR race. He promoted himself as the meanest of warmongers…”Double the size of Gitmo”?

Now, I’m having second thoughts. Consider that Republicans more today than ever, seem unconcerned with liars. After all, the re-elected one, and then tried to elect several more.

So I will concede Ken’s conclusion;

I saw how many of them, especially those that supported Mike Huckleberry simply because they did not want to see a Mormon be nominated. It was their hatred that handed John McCain the nomination

So what does it say about Republicans that they won’t elect a Mormon, but Democrats elected a BLACK MAN?

There is but one conclusion; The Republican Party is a tool of the intolerant, pathetic, frightened, racist, bigoted Christian Right.

The Republican Party is the party of economic collapse, unlimited government, lost and illegal wars, torture, unprecedented national debt, closeted homosexuals, and corrupt, sex-obsessed homophobes.

Oh yea, and ‘family values’ and ‘rugged individualism’ (except when it comes to Corporations).

    Cliff, you summed up the R’s pretty well. But I still think they rejected him because of bigotry, as the R’s have been shown to embrace flip-flopperiness in a candidate.

    Clearly, a Mormon can win statewide elections outside of Utah, but it will remain very difficult to attain the presidency because they are, to be blunt, weird in so many ways. A top post to follow on this in awhile.

    It seems like both the Republican party and the Democratic party suck right now. I would have a hard time feeling proud about either one.

    Kevin,

    Isn’t it easy whitewash and equivocate whenever taking a stand against evil makes your knees shake.

    While neither party is without problems, there are very major difference between the 2 parties and as you know, different degrees of evil.

    Do you struggle to recognize evil?

    Absolute partisan baloney Cliff.

    I think there is evil lurking in both parties; the evil of the Republican party has been made manifest lately because they have been in power. Is that a different degree of evil, or is it just more apparent? With the Democrats in power now, perhaps we will begin to see their dark side. Or, maybe they will rule wonderfully! I hope they will prove me wrong.

    I feel like I don’t really have a party I can be happy belonging to. I don’t want to be with the evil industrialists, but I also don’t want to be with the evil atheists. I don’t want to be with the crazy evangelicals, but I also don’t want to be with the crazy hippies. So I’m stuck feeling frustrated and disenfranchised.

    I don’t want to vote for the lesser of two evils, I want to vote for someone good.

    Mormans believe they can all become gods. They dont believe in the cross. They still practice polygamy spiritually. They won’t stop till they get a morman president. They are all sheep. They do what ever their church president tells them. No one dares cross them. Their doctrine is not Christian.

    Sandy,

    1. Mormons don’t believe they can all become gods. We believe that the most righteous of us can become like God.

    2. We believe in the cross, we just don’t worship it.

    3. We’re not going to stop after we get a Mormon president, either. The work will continue. Our ultimate goal in life is not to get one of our own in the White House. Our ultimate goal is eternal salvation.

    4. Last I checked, I was a human, not a sheep. But, if you’re saying that Mormons follow Jesus Christ as their shepherd, I can’t argue with your analogy.

    5. No, Mormons don’t do whatever their Church president tells them. If they did, you wouldn’t have Mormons who drink alcohol, use pornography, or cheat on their taxes.

    6. Plenty of people dare to cross the Mormons. Do you know anything about Mormon history before 1847?

    7. Mormon doctrine is Christian. To say otherwise is absurd. The Church is based on the divinity of Jesus Christ and his teachings.
