Media Dinosaurs

mainstream media, Ken Bingham, Liberal Media, Fox News, Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, News, Media
I would like to ask how many people at oneutah.org had ever heard of the ACORN scandal, or ACORN for that matter, till I brought it up? This shows just how pathetic the so called “mainstream” media has become. It is why they are dying Dinosaurs while alternative media such as Fox News, blogs, talk radio and the international press are flourishing. It’s sad when you get more news from the foreign press than the so called free press of the United States.

The Constitution specifically enumerates Freedom of the Press because they are supposed to be the watchdogs of the government, not its cheerleaders. So much of the press have allowed the government and private interests, including big business, to dictate what it prints. The press should be wildly critical and skeptical and hold all politicians, special interests, and business’ feet to the fire. That is why the founders wanted a free press because they knew the dangers of a government controlled press.

There was a time when reporters worked hard to investigate a story to get the scoop. Now they simply regurgitate the faxes and press releases from the very organizations they are covering. If the mainstream media did their jobs the two heroes that posed as pimp and prostitute wouldn’t have had to because ACORN would have been exposed long ago by eager reporters.

Media scrutiny keeps honest people honest and keeps dishonest people at bay, while lack of scrutiny allows corruption to flourish. Corruption is what turns a first world country into a third world country.

    1. I was well aware of ACORN long before the recent flap.
    2. Its quite a logical leap to conclude that the MSM is falling down on the job because 2 posters here indicated that they were not that familiar with ACORN prior to now. The MSM may not be doing its job, but you can’t reach that conclusion solely on the basis that it has not sensationalized an event that you find sensational.
    3. Were you concerned that the MSM was the lapdog of government and big business when Buch Co. was in charge, or is that a revelation that only came to you once your favored political party found itself out of power?
    4. Fox News does not qualify as alternative media.
    5. Stop with the hero hyperbole. The term has become as meaningless through over and misuse as the term terrorism.
    6. Your preoccupation with ACORN is bordering on the obsessive. As the GOP is fond of saying when one of their’s gets caught up in an unflaterring dust up, “its over, time to move on.”

Uncle Rico please site the time that the MSM ever was enamored by anyone in the Bush administration as much as they fawn over Obama? I admit the MSM should have been more skeptical and probing of the Bush administration and government in general. The media should be equal opportunity antagonists particularly to the party in power.

Maybe if the MSM was doing its job it would have been more skeptical of Iraqi WMDs etc.

What ever happened to the Sam Donaldson’s of the White House Press Core? They have all turned into lap dogs and are all eager to lap up what ever crumbs the press secretary feeds them. They are too afraid to ask real questions with tough followups fearing they won’t be called on anymore. It has happened and it corrupts the whole system.

I too was well aware of Fox’s ACORN reporting. Frankly, the reporting made little sense and did not support the propaganda-like promotion.

We are you all over ACORN. If you want to criticize Obama, focus on his use of contractors in the WOT, or his extension of the patriot act, or the dems lack of spine on HC reform.

Ken, There is plenty to criticize Obama for. Just check DailyKos. That was, you can also avoid the accusation of being a propagandist of lies.

    Love Cliff

I first heard of ACORN during last year’s presidential campaign when the right-wing tried to make a partisan issue out of this obscure non-partisan group. Despite the fact that they had Senator John McCain as the keynote speaker at their annual conference!

Also, I read some right-wing blogs and watch “The Daily Show,” so I saw the video snippets that the right-wing is now whining about. As I’ve said here before, the only actual crime committed was the taping of people without their knowledge and consent.

I suppose you are disappointed that this one time the MSM failed to give credence to the latest right-wing distraction. Cheer up, probably the next time Drudge tells them to jump on a story they will.

I’ve know about Acorn and the trumped up “voter fraud” accusations for about a year.

This post is bizarre and just props up the biggest and most pervasive lie told over the last many years by the myriad of Limbaugh clones: the media is liberal.

Honestly Ken, cute graphic, but I must re-post a video here about ostriches. From the seventies:

The creator of this music is a real, live war veteran.

Well, YouTube or even OneUtah doesn’t seem to be working too well lately, but here are the lyrics anyway:

Words and music by John Kay

We’ll call you when you’re six years old
And drag you to the factory
To train your brain for eighteen years
    With promise of security
    But then you’re free
And forty years you waste to chase the dollar sign
So you may die in Florida
At the pleasant age of sixty nine

The water’s getting hard to drink
We’ve mangled up the country side
The air will choke you when you breathe
    We’re all committing suicide
    But it’s alright
It’s progress folks keep pushin’ till your body rots
Will strip the earth of all it’s green
And then divide her into parking lots

But there’s nothing you and I can do
You and I are only two
What’s right and wrong is hard to say
    Forget about it for today
We’ll stick our heads into the sand
Just pretend that all is grand
Then hope that everything turns out ok

You’re free to speak your mind my friend
As long as you agree with me
    Don’t criticize the father land
Or those who shape your destiny
    ‘Cause if you do
You’ll lose your job your mind and all the friends you knew
We’ll send out all our boys in blue
They’ll find a way to silence you

But there’s nothing you and I can do
You and I are only two
What’s right and wrong is hard to say
    Forget about it for today
We’ll stick our heads into the sand
Just pretend that all is grand
Then hope that everything turns out ok

Used without permission, however I don’t think anybody is going to sue me.

    Update:

From The Verve’s one hit wonder:

‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life
    Trying to make ends meet
You’re a slave to money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah

    No change, I can’t change
    I can’t change, I can’t change
But I’m here in my mind
I am here in my mind
But I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
    I can’t change my mind
No, no, no, no, no, no, no,no,no,no,no,no(fading away)

    Well I never pray
But tonight I’m on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airways are clean and there’s nobody singing to me now

    No change, I can’t change
    I can’t change, I can’t change
But I’m here in my mind
I am here in my mind
And I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
    I can’t change my mind
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
    I can’t change
    I can’t change it

‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life
    Trying to make ends meet
Trying to find some money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah

    You know I can’t change, I can’t change
    I can’t change, I can’t change
But I’m here in my mind
I am here in my mind
And I’m a million different people
from one day to the next
    I can’t change my mind
    No, no, no, no, no

    I can’t change my mind
    no, no, no, no, no,
    I can’t change
    Can’t change my body,
    no, no, no

I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
    Been down
    Ever been down
    Ever been down
    Ever been down
    Ever been down
    That you’ve ever been down
    That you’ve ever been down

    The Verves

It’s laughable that anyone would ever consider faux news as news! My first thought was that I couldn’t believe that someone considers them “alternative”, but after some thought I think that “alternative” best describes them but maybe alternative entertainment and not news. They serve a fringe of the conservatives in our country and shouldn’t be considered news, mainstream or alternative.

  11. #11 by Larry Bergan on September 22, 2009 - 2:27 pm

It can’t be said enough. Fox “news” was in court defending it’s right to lie, and WON!

Why would anybody watch something like that?

  12. #12 by Richard Warnick on September 25, 2009 - 3:12 pm

Media scrutiny does indeed expose dishonesty. Anti-ACORN videographers James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles lied. They were thrown out of ACORN offices in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. In San Diego and Philadelphia, they were reported to the police. And the videos were doctored.
