Who ya gonna believe,

…deniers or your own senses?

Reality:

A debilitating heat wave has caused at least 52 deaths, with 3,500 temperature records shattered across the country from June 30 to July 6. “We had every single state in the lower 48 hit 90 or 100 degrees because of this heat wave,” WCBS New York meteorologist Lonnie Quinn said. “That’s unheard of.” Washington, D.C., for instance, saw its 11th consecutive day of plus-95 degree temperatures, the longest streak ever for the city. So far this year, there have been 40,000 heat records set across the U.S., according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Conservatives:

“We’re having some hot weather. Get over it.” -George Will

Though to be fair, the average conservative can barely remember winter, and what they do recall is that it snowed at least once, and “fox and friends” said that meant warming is a hoax. Take that reality!

Exactly. In a stable system we would expect the highs and lows to not only be equal, but slowly decrease. After enough time, you would have no more highs, as the highest natural temp of the system would have been reached. Not only do we see more highs than lows, we see more record highs each year. And a nearly equal number of lows. The system is unstable, trending higher, but also diverging, keeping unnaturally high numbers of record lows.

And NOAA is currently worried that current temps are creating a la Nina/el niño shift, which will bring some relief for the end of the year, but heat the sub oceanic currents and come back to bite us in the ass a few years from now (I think the cycle takes 5-7 years) and leave us with 115 degree weather in 2017 or so where today we have 100 degree days.

    Wouldn’t that be fun?
