President Obama’s Labor Day Speech

Watched this on TV live yesterday. I know President Obama has been a disappointment for Americans who work for a living. He definitely never walked a picket line as President, like he promised in 2007. But he sure gave a great speech on the one day a year when Dems come out to defend labor unions.

Bernie Sanders: Labor Day 2015: Stand Together and Fight Back

As a result of an explosion of technology, productivity has risen in this country, but working people are not sharing in the wealth. For three decades after the end of World War II, productivity and wages grew together. Business profits rose, and the workers who made those profits possible did well along with their bosses. That’s not happening today. Productivity has continued to soar, but workers have been cut out of the profits.

The time is long overdue for us to create an economy which works for the middle class and working families of this country, and not just the one percent. It is time for us to have a government which represents all Americans, not just wealthy campaign contributors.

…Here’s the good news: we faced challenges like these before in our history, and we won. We won when working people across this country came together – in the workplace, in peaceful demonstrations, and at the ballot box – and said “No more.” That victory is part of what we celebrate on Labor Day.

The president also gave a fantastic speech about climate change in Alaska which had progressives scratching theirs heads, because he had OK’d drilling for oil there.

Then I heard that there’s probably no way Alaskans would allow restrictions on oil drilling, due to the fact that the oil companies pay everybody’s income taxes there.

Obama was absolutely right about people having to work when they’re sick. I worked in fast food for about 7 years and if you think people stay home when they’re sick, you’re kidding yourselves.

Men wouldn’t even go to work if they had to carry somebody around for nine months. The human race would evaporate.

I hope Obama isn’t trying to divide the sexes, but that was probably true. And it’s also true that women get their asses back to work directly after birth too. I’ve seen it lots of times. :(
