Right Wing Christians’ China Chins

I periodically check in on the American Family Association’s www.onenewsnow.com website. It’s a fairly reliable indicator of the conspiracies and lunacies circulating among America’s conservative Christians. Their enjoying their usual public “war on Christmas” drama this year.

In an article decrying “A judge in Indiana has halted a public high school’s nativity scene during its Christmas program”, they report:

OneNewsNow has documented in recent weeks how secular symbols such as Christmas trees and Santa Claus are being banned, and use of the word “Christmas” itself makes some people uncomfortable.

Really? Banned? I clicked the link which took me to this article:

If you plan on having a Christmas party at the University of Tennessee be sure to leave the Baby Jesus and Santa Claus at home.

The taxpayer-funded university’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion recently released an “unofficial” edict calling for the campus to host holiday parties that do not emphasize religion or culture.

Those are pretty strong words.  Fortunately there’s a link to the university’s website with the supposed edict.  Starnes, unsurprisingly, misrepresented the actual document which addressed specifically campus WORKPLACE parties and which did not in fact do what he claimed it did.  Here’s the complete text of the online document:

As we enter the holiday season, please be mindful of the rich diversity of our campus community. Recognizing a wide variety of cultures and beliefs, we should note that people choose to celebrate in different ways and on varying days of the year.

While there are many joyous occasions and special opportunities to gather, employee participation in any celebration should always be voluntary. While it is inevitable that differences will appear in how people celebrate, everyone is encouraged to have an open mind and to approach every situation with sensitivity.

We are grateful for the many people, cultures, and viewpoints of our campus. We should celebrate our diversity not only during the holidays but also on every day of the year.

IOW, don’t force employees to celebrate if they don’t want to, and please be aware that you may be celebrating Christmas, someone else is not.

If you click through to the office’s page, you will see a list of cultural and religious holidays, including a variety of Christian traditions, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish and African-American holidays.

What it comes down to is that America’s tough talking conservative Christians really have china chins and can’t stand even the hint of diversity.

Businesses depend on Christmas to make a fortune every year. It’s the safest institution in America. Only Fox “news” is shameless enough to turn this into “a thing”. :)

You got that right, Larry. Christmas is not going away as long as there is money to be made.

I don’t know what to make of this. Zombie baby Jesus is downright weird.

This was two years ago, but it’s classic Faux News and utterly hilarious.

Fox News host Megyn Kelly tells kids: Jesus and Santa are both white guys

“For all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white,” Kelly said. “But this person is just arguing that maybe we should also have a black Santa. But Santa is what he is.”

“Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn’t mean it has to change, you know?” she added. “I mean, Jesus was a white man too. He was a historical figure, that’s a verifiable fact, as is Santa — I just want the kids watching to know that.”

Yup, you can always get verifiable facts from Megyn Kelly.
