Ted Cruz’s Health Insurance Nonsense

Ted Cruz has taken to wandering the countryside claiming that he lost his health insurance because of Obamacare.

Ted Cruz is a Republican.

Ted Crus is a liar.

But, I repeat myself.

Cruz had insurance from his wife’s employer. When she stopped working to campaign full time, he lost that coverage.

Now, since that is a qualifying life event, he had options. For example, COBRA. He could have signed up for insurance through the exchange. As a US Senator, he could get coverage through the US government (although he’s required to purchase it through the exchange). He could have called an insurance company and purchased insurance. He could have assigned one of his aides to do it for him.

He did not.

IOW, Ted Cruz deliberately allowed his family to go without insurance when he had multiple options.

On another blog site, somebody commented that this explains why Rafael (“Ted”) Cruz has such a long nose…

I GOT health insurance through Obamacare. I could care less, if Cruz lost his. If your family has an accident of some kind that causes you to lose everything, Welcome to America.

Of course, before Obamacare, people with, what they thought was, good insurance lost everything anyway.

I don’t wish misfortune on people but some of these well-lits seem to need a bump on the head.

Cruz Camp Admits Ted’s Story About Losing Health Insurance Was False

In statements to Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal, campaign spokeswoman Catherine Frazier blamed Cruz’s false assertion that his family had lost their health insurance on a misunderstanding. She said an insurance broker told Cruz that BlueCross BlueShield of Texas was dropping his PPO plan, but Frazier said that the broker did not tell Cruz his family was automatically being transferred to the carrier’s HMO plan.

      Let me guess…

The correction to Ted Cruz’s false statements are only being reported by “Talking Points Memo”.

So far, I haven’t seen it anywhere else. Josh Marshall:

I’m sorry. Ted got an Ivy League education at Princeton, went on to Harvard Law School and is by all accounts – including his own – one of the sharpest people around. He’s argued multiple cases before the Supreme Court. It never occurred to him that being born in Canada and lived there until he was four made him a dual citizen? He’s completely ignorant of the most basic elements of nationality law in either country? That doesn’t make sense. Just like it doesn’t make sense that he somehow didn’t realize he had health care coverage. All the holes in his story make this totally obvious: he lied. He just plain made it up because it fit too perfectly with his political message.
