Louie Gohmert is the dumbest man in Congress *(and that’s saying something)

As the Dems sit in reached an emotional peak yesterday, Gohmert approached Democratic Rep. Corinne Brown and shouted “Radical Islam” at her. Brown represents Orlando.

Gohmert, like lots of right wingers, has decided to take Omar Mateen’s declaration that he was working of ISIS seriously and has decided that means he was a terrorist rather than a deeply fucked up person whose denial of his sexual orientation drove him to madness.

As I write this, the sit in continues with Democrat after Democrat making impassioned speeches concerning efforts to end gun violence.  The parties are not the same.

The media is refusing to mention the fact that Mateen was a regular at the gay club, and it appears, not a very successful one. I believe he made a thing out of support for ISIS because he was more afraid of his attraction to men being known, then his own death. In fact he was probably trying to kill everybody there to prevent the truth from getting out.

You could easily predict the Republicans were going to run with the radical Islam angle, while this country is in much more danger from domestic extremists with assault weapons. I thought it was very strange for Donald Trump to say Mateen was born in Afghanistan. It makes him look inept.

I saw it live, but I couldn’t understand what Rep. Gohmert was yelling.

The Dems are so full of shit. If they wanted to bring back the assault weapons ban that President Bush allowed to expire in 2004, why didn’t they do it when they had control of Congress in 2007-2010? There are millions more military-style weapons in private hands since the ban was lifted.

President Obama’s legacy on gun safety consists of signing the bill that did away with the 70-year-old rule prohibiting bringing loaded weapons into our national parks. More info:

The Gun Lobby vs. America (6/17/2009)
New, Easy-to-Remember Gun Rules for National Parks (2/15/2010)

There is also a problem with “no fly, no buy” because the terrorist watch list has an estimated 800,000 names on it and no transparency. If the White House was in Tea-GOP hands, Dems wouldn’t be so happy with this secret list. People aren’t even allowed to know if they are on the list!

I’ve also been weary of that gun bill involving the “terrorist” list. On the surface, it’s obviously a great angle to go with, if you’re trying to get a single thing past the gun lobby, but it is a hideous usurpation of innocent citizen’s rights.
