Public hearing held in Salt Lake City on March 16th, showing strong opposition to planned degradation of Utah lands, including the Bears Ears area.

“The County Seat” is a program broadcast by local television on Sunday mornings. The program likes to portray itself as a public forum the people of Utah can use to make decisions on local issues.

The program has been endorsed by Gary Herbert and is – naturally – a very bias source on The Bears Ears. This episode does what all the other episodes do and focuses on the group of Native Americans we keep seeing in the media that consists of around a dozen people, who claim they are the only ones who live in the area. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but that’s the story. The other part of the story is that these people fear they won’t be able to live their lives the way they’ve been living them for centuries.

The Utah government claims they’ve given the proponents of The Bears Ears monument more then enough chances to be heard and sit at the table.

I don’t believe that part for one damn minute!

I hope this small group of native people realize what the Republican congress and governor have in store for the area they love so much. They don’t seem to.

Let’s hope that President Obama does the right thing and proclaims the Bears Ears National Monument. Utah politicians, led by Rep. Rob Bishop, tried a cynical bait-and-switch public lands bill but their trick backfired and it boosted support for an honest preservation effort.

Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will be in Bluff July 16 to meet with advocates of the Bears Ears National Monument.

I heard about that Richard and I signed up to attend. I didn’t realize it was WAY down in the corner of Utah. My mom is 95 and depends on me living close in Salt Lake. She doesn’t want me to go alone.

I’m thinking the Republican monarchy in Utah is considering having as many assault rifles there as they can, unless they’ve made the connection that it makes them look bad. None-too-smart to do that in my opinion. We’ll see. They’ll deny it and the media will back them up if assault rifles or hand guns show up.

Yes it’s a six hour drive to get to Bluff. I was there a month ago for a San Juan River trip. I don’t plan to go for the Bears Ears meeting for several reasons, but I expect it will be VERY well attended.

Guns and Republicans are like love and marriage. Deny it.

    I didn’t make this up.

    I’m half kidding.

I don’t think anybody is going to show up with an assault rifle. There was a presentation at the public library of land issues in Salt Lake City with Ken Ivory and Patrick Shea debating and there were lots of cowboy hats, but – as far as I know – no weapons. This was after the Cliven Bundy event, but before the bird refuge takeover and death-by-cop martyr-ism of Lavoy .

After all, this is the new, old west.

    Anything can happen. :)

GOP Platform Committee Wants Feds To Turn Fed Lands Over To States ASAP

We hoped that the terrorist antics of the Bundy Gang would discredit the whole Tea-GOP land grab agenda. Not hardly.

    Do it Obama! ASAP!

The media is reporting that 71% of Utah wants the national monument.

    Teabaggers lose.
