What? A Guy Can’t Cut A Deal?

Senator Rick Santorum is probably sorry one of his aides didn’t rush him off before the public had a chance to submit questions on the “Overtime” segment of the popular HBO “Real Time” political series from August 28th 2015, which takes place after the HBO cable show signs off. Americans want to know why Republicans are so upset about Obama’s recent diplomacy successes in Iran.

To those of you who are as tired of Reagan worship as I am, this might interest you. Let me try to capsulize a little American history for you here.

Near the end of the seventies, president Jimmy Carter was humiliated by Ted Koppel’s “Nightline” program, which started out every night with a countdown of how many days our second worst enemy – behind Russia – had held American hostages in that “terrorist” country. The American media still avoids touching on what Republican operatives did to gain political prominence during those times.

To make a long story short: Republicans made a secret deal to sell weapons to the “terrorists” in Iran so they could use them against our “friends” in Iraq, while at the same time, making Carter look weak by requiring Iran to detain our hostages until the very moment Reagan was sworn in. Cute. :(

That’s what Maher is alluding to in this video, which was not broadcast on his cable show. The lesson Democrats are supposed to learn, is that only Republicans can negotiate with “terrorists”. When THEY do it, it’s called a “deal”. Notice the, I got caught, look on Santorum’s face. He’ll be telling the same lie starting tomorrow.

Vote Republican. :(

Game Over, Man!

Santorum: ‘Game over’ if Obama wins again

At a campaign event for Iowa Rep. Steve King (R), former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum warned that the United States was “over” if President Barack Obama was re-elected in November.

“This is your moment. We lose — Steve King will tell you — we lose, and Obamacare implemented, it’s over. Hate to be that stark, but it’s over,” he said.

“We will no longer hear a candidate get up and talk about 47 percent of the people in a moment when no one was supposedly recording,” Santorum continued, alluding to a video of Romney describing nearly half of Americans as government-dependent victims who didn’t take responsibility for themselves. “Because everyone will be dependent upon government benefits. When that happens — our Founders pleaded and warned us against that — when that happens, game not on, but game over.”

Do Your Taxes Like Willard (“Mitt”) Romney

Now that Rick Sanctimonious is out, the GOP is left with the candidate of the 1 Percent.

UPDATE: Willard is fluent in French, and knows the correct pronunciation of the word dressage. We have proof. Remember the 2004 election, when Republicans made fun of John Kerry’s elitist tendencies?

“What kind of horses do you have?” asks Hannity.

“She has Austrian warmbloods,” says Romney, “It’s a dressage horse … for the sport she’s in.” “Me? I have a Missouri Fox Trotter. So mine’s like a quarter horse, but just a much better gait — it moves very fast.”

Horses, plural, just like Cadillacs and mansions. Never mind the price, you can’t afford one. We have a picture, too.

Obama Derangement is All They Have Left

Remember when anyone who dared to criticize President George W. Bush’s policies was automatically accused of “Bush Derangement Syndrome,” as if no sane person could possibly be unhappy with the Bush administration? Well, there were a lot of perfectly rational reasons to be against Bush — and some of the same objections can be raised against the right-wing corporatist Obama administration.

But that’s not where President Obama’s major party opponents are coming from. Willard (“Mitt”) Romney, Newton (“Newt”) Gingrich, and Rick Santorum all offer a made-up version of the Obama administration which blames every American problem, real (the worst economy since the Great Depression, skyrocketing health-care costs) or imaginary (nonexistent Iranian nukes, nonexistent oil shortage, not enough religiosity) on Obama’s alleged “socialist” hard-left rule.

The Santorum campaign has produced a masterpiece of post-logical Obama fear-mongering, the phony “Obamaville” video. I guess they finally realized that campaigning against contraception and threatening to outlaw pornography wasn’t going over well with either women or men.

John Brabender, the Santorum strategist who made the video, said it was a trailer for an eight-part series that will start in two weeks. Each of those videos will show how various Obama policies, such as those regarding health care and energy, have affected everyday life.

“It’s just a little teaser to get people to start watching our episodes and do it in a way that piques their interest,” Mr. Brabender said. “It’s all about driving traffic to the Web site.”

The trailer is set in a desolate town called “Obamaville.” Here, gas prices soar so high that people seem to want to kill themselves (a man puts a gas nozzle to his head). The flame of a candle symbolizing religious freedom is blown out. A girl sits glumly on a bench in extreme poverty.

“Every day, the residents of this town must come to grips with the harsh reality that a rogue nation, a sworn American enemy, has become a nuclear threat,” intones a narrator as the viewer is plunged into a cold war fallout shelter with old television sets and an air raid siren.

Mr. Ahmadinejad’s image appears, quickly interspersed with one of Mr. Obama. Mr. Brabender said the coupling was meant to suggest the constant conflict that will ensue if Iran develops nuclear weapons.

Fear is an effective political tool, especially when legitimately scary stuff is happening to the American middle class as a result of Washington policies that favor the 1% at the expense of the 99%, and Wall Street at the expense of Main Street. It makes sense to be afraid of a government that asserts the right to kill or imprison American citizens anywhere in the world without a shred of due process, put us all under constant surveillance, and make protest illegal– all in violation of the U.S. Constitution.

Why can’t somebody make a video about all that? It would have the additional advantage of being true.

UPDATE: Provo artist depicts Obama torching U.S. Constitution. But the title of the painting is “One Nation Under Socialism.” Can anyone name one “socialist” policy of the Obama administration? They even want to cut Social Security and Medicare.

Radical Environmental Islamic Global Warmists and Theological Secularism

STEWART: There is a type of theological secularism when it comes to the global warmists in this country. That’s what [Santorum] was referring to. He was referring to the president’s policies in terms of the radical Islamic policies the president has, specifically in terms of the energy exploration.

GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s press secretary Alice Stewart came under fire Monday for her comments accusing President Barack Obama of having “radical Islamic policies.” The spokesperson misspoke in an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, but in a way that reveals the bigoted mindset of Santorum’s sanctimonious supporters. Stewart later said she meant to say “radical environmental policies,” but “Islamic” came out instead.

You have to admire the phrase “theological secularism,” for sheer inanity. Here is a presidential campaign which is largely driven by religious bigotry and hatred criticizing the environmental movement for allegedly sharing the shortcomings of religion (e.g. ignorance and resistance to facts and logic).

In reality, climate science is accepted worldwide. It’s only a few well-funded corporate front groups like the Heartland Institute that are trying to deny that climate change is happening. Oh, and all the GOP presidential candidates are denialists too.

As always, we can only wish our “drill baby drill” President was half the environmentalist that right-wingers think he is.
