The fire in Colorado’s Black Forest is the most destructive in Colorado history, destroying around 500 homes, thousands of acres; it’s worst than last year’s Waldo Canyon fire.
I’ve been following the news anxiously as La Foret Conference and Retreat Center, which holds a special place in my heart and hearts of many people I care about, is in the Black Forest. La Foret has apparently survived. Nevertheless, the destruction in the area is truly massive – one local authority said it looked like a nuclear bomb went off in the Black Forest.
Black Forest is beautiful – ponderosa pines and hills in the mountains northeast of Colorado Springs. The residents swear they will bounce back.
