Another Republican con job is the lie that the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) prevents secret ballots.
The fact is that the EFCA changes nothing except to add more options to empoyees for organizing. Everybody knows that the secret ballot is the tool of corporations that allows them to conduct expensive anti-union intimidation tactics.
Dan Boren is the only Dem to declare that he’ll vote against EFCA this year. Lets demonstrate the sort of political price those who oppose EFCA might pay.
I wonder how Matheson will vote?
The target of Wimmer’s ire is the Employee Free Choice Act:
The Employee Free Choice Act (H.R. 800, S. 1041), supported by a bipartisan coalition in Congress, would enable working people to bargain for better wages, benefits and working conditions by restoring workers’ freedom to choose for themselves whether to join a union. It would:
* Establish stronger penalties for violation of employee rights when workers seek to form a union and during first-contract negotiations.
* Provide mediation and arbitration for first-contract disputes (PDF).
* Allow employees to form unions by signing cards authorizing union representation.
Wimmer’s argument is pure red herring:
