Here it is in “Black and White.” Open Letter to the Republican Traitors (From a Former Republican) and accompanying interview.
We are beginning to see more and more from this guy. He’s one of the few influential, ex-republican conservatives trying to stop the cannibalistic freak-show that threatens to destroy the Republican party.
Despite his admiration for Reagan, he’s not suicidal. He understands the the far right has got the party in a choke-hold and isn’t going to let go unless someone makes them.
Its time for real conservatives get unhinged. You (conservatives) loved it when blue collar America, against their best interest, began voting republican. Now they are voting against YOU and FOR Rush Limbaugh. You reap what you sow.
The Republican congressional leaders can pretend that they are reasonable and patriotic Americans. Their dirty secret is that they know that their base is an unhinged, ignorant and dangerous lower class white insurgency. Who do you think Sara Palin was nominated to appease? McCain may play games and say he wants the President to succeed, but he knows full well who his party must cater to — today’s scorched earth know-nothing white mini Limbaughs. excerpted
Wikipedia – On October 10, 2008 a public letter to Senator McCain (and Sarah Palin) from Schaeffer was published in the Baltimore Sun newspaper. The letter contained an impassioned plea for John McCain to arrest what Schaeffer perceived as a hateful, and prejudiced tone of the Republican party’s election campaign. Schaeffer was convinced that there was a pronounced danger that fringe groups in America could be goaded into pursuing violence. “If you do not stand up for all that is good in America and declare that Senator Obama is a patriot, fit for office, and denounce your hate-filled supporters … history will hold you responsible for all that follows.”
How can anyone who loves our country support the Republicans now? Barry Goldwater, William F. Buckley and Ronald Reagan defined the modern conservatism that used to be what the Republican Party I belonged to was about. Today no actual conservative can be a Republican. Reagan would despise today’s wholly negative Republican Party.
