From Mud-Flats, Crunching the Numbers in Alaska
In 2004, 66% of registered voters turned out to vote in the presidential election between George Bush and John Kerry.
In 2008, including the votes still outstanding, only 54% of registered voters turned out.
Huh? Lower turnout in the biggest election Alaska has ever had???
And the strangest part of all? Voter turnout in the primaries, before Palin was even on the ticket, was up 12% from 2004. We also had more than 20,000 new registered voters.
As these strange numbers rolled in at Election Central, I was there watching. Here’s how it fell out over time.
With 36% of the precincts reporting:
61.76% for McCain
35.64% for Obama
With 81.3% reporting
61.54% for McCain
35.69% for Obama
With 96.1% reporting
61.29% for McCain
35.96% for Obama
Alaska, like many states, has blue areas and red areas. The Mat-Su Valley, home of Sarah Palin is very very red. Anchorage? Blue. The Kenai Peninsula? Red. Juneau? Blue. You get the idea.
Something is very fishy in Hot Momma Fish Land.
According to the LA Times, veteran Republican operative Mark Jacoby has been arrested for voter registration fraud.
But this is not the first time, according to the St. Petersburg Times, the Republican party in 2004 hired Mr. Jacoby through another firm and he ran the same scam then–and they knew about it and hired him again for this election.
The prime suspect is a group hired by the Republican National Committee to register voters… Young Political Majors LLC, or YPM, is a company registered by Mark Jacoby at a Town ‘N Country residence.
Jacoby appeared this summer at the election office in Gainesville with a box of about 1,200 voter registration cards. Of those, about 510 voters had switched to the GOP.
Elections Supervisor Beverly Hill spoke with Jacoby and grew suspicious. She randomly called the Republicans to verify they wanted to switch. All of them said, "Absolutely not," Hill said. "They didn’t even know they had signed a registration form," Hill said.
Jacoby could not be reached for comment. His company worked for a company called JSM Inc., which in turn worked for Arno Political Consultants, a Sacramento, Calif., firm that qualified 300 ballot initiatives in 20 states.
The firm’s largely conservative clients include the Bush/Quayle campaign, the National Rifle Association and RJ Reynolds. The company has also worked for Florida’s class size amendment.
The Republican National Committee hired Arno for a voter registration drive, said Mindy Tucker Fletcher, a senior adviser to the Florida GOP. Campaign finance reports show the RNC paid Arno $450,000 in one reporting period in September.
These guys pay $7-$12 bucks for a registration. So much for ACORN huh?
